Podcasters Across Borders

Podcasters Across Borders

I just registered to attend Podcasters Across Borders 2009. PAB is a Podcasting event where lots of podcasters from across Canada abroad get together to share in the joy that is podcasting. It takes place June 19-21 in Kingston, Ontario. I look forward to attending the event to meet with our friends from the podcasting community and of course, to talk about CastRoller.

Early registration for PAB ends tomorrow, so if you aren’t already registered, come join us by registering here. If it’s after the early registration date, you can still come.

I look forward to seeing you there!

New Design for the Blog

Welcome to the brand new design for the CastRoller blog. This deisgn is courtesy of John Leschinski of Leschinski Design. Thanks a lot to John for his great work.

The new blog design corresponds to an upcoming redesign of CastRoller itself. We will be posting more details on the new design over the coming weeks.

New Feature: Popout Player

popout

It is now easier to listen to and watch podcasts on CastRoller.  There is now a small link next to every media player on the site that will cause the same player to open up in a small window. This lets you enjoy a podcast while continuing to browse CastRoller or the rest of the web.

New Feature: Share Episodes with your Contacts

Last evening we published a brand new feature that will greatly increase the social aspect of CastRoller. You can now share any podcast episode with any of your contacts on CastRoller. You can either share with one of your contacts or with all of your contacts.

When an episode is shared with you, it appears in your inbox. A new page that lists all of your received episodes. Of course, there is an RSS feed for your inbox, so you can have all of the episodes shared with you automatically appear on your computer or device.

You will also be sent an e-mail letting you know the details of the shared episode. You can opt out of receiving these e-mails with a new option available on the settings page.

We hope you enjoy the new feature, please let us know what you think!

Scheduled Maintenance this Evening

CastRoller will be unavailable from 5:30 EDT to 7:00 EDT this evening for scheduled maintenance.

We will be moving the site over to new servers to better accomodate our growing needs.

Update: The move went smoothly with no down time. We made some updates to CastRoller’s DNS, so please let us know if you you find anything wrong.

Trouble with the Site

In order to better prepare ourselves for traffic, we moved over to a new webhost, Mosso. Unfortunately, they are experiencing some difficulties at the moment that are impacting CastRoller.

Hopefully the problem will resolve itself shortly. I will update this post once things are back to normal.

Update: The problem has been resolved, sorry for any inconvenience.

Praise for CastRoller’s episode filtering on the AideRSS blog

aideRSS_logo AideRSS offers an API to filter RSS feeds by their popularity which is used by CastRoller for our Filter Channel Episodes Feature. They just published an enthusiastic entry to their blog about the filtering feature. Check the post out here.

If you haven’t been able to check out the new feature enter your e-mail address at castroller.com/beta to get into the private beta.

Filter Channel Episodes

Originally uploaded by William Spaetzel

I just published a new feature to CastRoller that lets you filter the episodes for any channels or podcasts. This lets you choose to see or listen to just the content that you would like. If you want just the best content, you can also filter the episodes by PostRank using AideRss to get just be best episodes from the channels or podcasts.

And, there is also a feed for the filtered content, so if you don’t have time to consume all of the episodes of your favorite podcasts or channels, you can subscribe to the feed and have only the best episodes come automatically to your device.

CastRoller on Twitter

I just created a new Twitter account for CastRoller. You can follow CastRoller on Twitter here:

I plan to use the Twitter account to post status and feature updates about the site as they happen.

Hello and Welcome Back

As you may have noticed, CastRoller went through a major change over the last two weeks. The site is now running on 100% brand new code meant to make the site more reliable and much easier to use.

With the new upgrade, we have put the site into a private Beta, meaning you must have an invitation to use the site. If you already have a CastRoller.com account, you are already in the beta. Only new users will be affected.

We’ve also switch web hosts, which meant rebuilding this blog as well. I’ll be filling in the old posts from the site shortly.

I hope to use this blog to keep an open dialog with the users of CastRoller. We’ll keep you updated with what is going on with the site and what is new in the world of podcasting. I hope to hear from you all soon.
